Folktronica, an impossible pairing? Definitely not for the 24-year-old British singer Ellie Goulding. A fusion between folk music and electronica. “I don’t believe in rules or boundaries with music. A beautiful song is a beautiful song. I often start writing a folk song, but then if it becomes electronica, then thats what the song was meant to become” Ellie says. Sounds pretty impressive! All that began when she learned to play the guitar at the age of 14. She grew up listening to Alison Krauss, Patti Smith and her idol Bjork. Only ages ago…What about now? Ellie’s debut album Lights hit No. 1 on the UK album charts and she won the Critics’ Choice trophy at the 2010 BRIT Awards. But being the only artist performing on the royal wedding reception was the biggest honour for her and she considers it as “a truly unbelievable experience”.
