Addictive electronic pop from Hereford

Posted in fashion, music,uk by Berry on March 24th, 2012

Folktronica, an impossible pairing? Definitely not for the 24-year-old British singer Ellie Goulding. A fusion between folk music and electronica. “I don't believe in rules or boundaries with music. A beautiful song is a beautiful song. I often start writing a folk song, but then if it becomes electronica, then thats what the song was meant to become” Ellie says. Sounds pretty impressive! All that began when she learned to play the guitar at the age of 14. She grew up listening to Alison Krauss, Patti Smith and her idol Bjork. Only ages ago…What about now? Ellie's debut album Lights hit No. 1 on the UK album charts and she won the Critics' Choice trophy at the 2010 BRIT Awards. But being the only artist performing on the royal wedding reception was the biggest honour for her and she considers it as “a truly unbelievable experience”. Not only the Royal family is captivated by Ellie Goulding's unique voice- her music is simply addictive for everyone who at least listened to her Elton John cover Your song.

BerlinLondon is astonished about Ellie's fashion style. Let's have a look at the LOOK Magazine Shooting results

Fashion Insider: Samuel Schler

Posted in fashion,interviews,uk by Jessica-Stephanie on March 14th, 2012

Standing in the line at LFW to get into Emilio de la Morena, I fortunately found myself standing next to a bubbly, hilarious, super-stylish young man. What I was soon to find out was how accomplished he was. A famous fashion blogger with invites to all the best shows around. And he's only 20. BerlinLondon meets Samuel Schler.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Passionate, international and headstrong (laugh)

Sum up the word 'fashion' in 3 words.
Art, personality, aesthetic

What made you want to pursue a career in fashion?
Since I was young I would watch fashion channels and fashion shows on TV and say to my friends and family “one day I’ll be there, attending all those incredible fashion shows all around the world”, it was really a goal in my life and I am really glad I had the chance to make it. I enjoy each and every show I see with the eyes of an astonished child and I hope that will never change.

Why did you decide to start a fashion blog?
It’s very hard to start working in a magazine right away, without any experience and I thought the best way to start in this world was to create my own blog and share my vision of fashion!

What has been your experience of the fashion industry so far?
I have had the opportunity to work in Sydney, Australia, for a fashion company, and now that I am back in Europe I keep working for them and have also been contracted by magazines in the USA and Spain. I am really glad about what I could do last season: Berlin, Madrid, London and Paris RTW as well as Paris Couture, a dream Job.

You have been too a variety of fashion weeks, ranging from Paris, New York to London. What do you find most unique about LFW?
LFW is to me one of the best one due to the fact that it’s not too commercial and feature a lot of creative and original designers. I was really surprised to see shows in which not a single piece could be sold (laugh) but which were simply gorgeous. That’s what I like about LFW, fashion is still seen as an art, not only a way to make money.

Have you ever been to Berlin fashion week?
Yes, I went there for the first time in January!

Favourite British and German fashion designers?
In Berlin I loved the Stephan Pelger and the BeautyBerry by Wang Yatao shows, they were magical.
In London I was particularly impressed by a young combo, Fyodor Golan, who showed a collection absolutely incredible!

If you could be with any fashion industry professional right now, who would it be?
Anna Wintour, no hesitation.

What are your fashion hotspots in UK and Germany?
I haven’t been there enough time to discover all the fashion places, but I would say I loved the after fashion week party at the Malzafabrik in Berlin, and in London I loved the Mayfair neighborhood! Each and every time I go there I spot either Naomi or Kate shopping!!

What one piece of clothing should each person avoid?
I don’t think there is any piece of clothing that should be avoided, it all depends on how you wear it and what you match it with.

What would be your dream opportunity?
I often dream that a big magazine, say Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar, calls me and offer me a Fashion Editor job in NY!! So far I am still waiting for their call (laugh)

Daphne Guiness or Chloe Sevigny?
Anna Dello Russo?

Burberry, Mcqueen or Westwood?
Mcqueen, he’s one of the designers I really admired and each and every couture show they present fascinates me.
